This past Monday morning, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. hosted its 17th annual Rosa Parks Women of Courage Breakfast early Monday morning.
The theme was “Women in Law” and the guest speaker was Georgia Supreme Court Justice, Verda M. Colvin. Colvin holds the distinction of being the first African American female appointed by a Republican governor to that position.
Following their theme for the event, the organization recognized three local women and a local legal organization making an impact in their profession.
Muscogee County Clerk of Superior and State Court, Daniella Forte; Muscogee County Recorder’s Court Judge, Susan Henderson; and attorney LaRae Dixon Moore. The Georgia Legal Services Program was honored with the Carolyn G. Randolph President’s Award.
In her closing remarks, Colvin shared; “I wanted people to understand the power of women in our legal profession. All that they’ve done all that they have conquered over the years and the fact that every place where decisions are made, women need to be there.”
