Arrest Made in Deadly Hit-and-Run Incident

NEW YORK — UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thomson was assassinated early Dec. 4 in Midtown Manhattan, sending shockwaves through the business and healthcare communities.
The New York Police Department confirmed that Thomson, 58, was fatally shot outside of his Hilton hotel located in the 18th precinct of Manhattan on Wednesday at 6:40 a.m.
Thomson had led UnitedHealthcare, the nation’s largest health insurer, since 2019 and was instrumental in the company’s expansion of value-based care initiatives.
Officers are calling the fatal shooting a “brazen, targeted attack,” according to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, noting that the gunman was “lying in wait” for several minutes prior to opening fire on Thomson.
Thomson was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have launched an investigation and are reviewing security footage from the area.
No suspects have been arrested as of this afternoon, and authorities have not disclosed a possible motive.
