The “Granddaddy” of HBCU Classics is making its way back to Columbus. After its move to Birmingham, Alabama in 2020, many alumni from both universities and members of the Classic’s committee have urged for the Tuskegee- Morehouse Classic to return to its original location.
Beginning in 1936, the Tuskegee-Morehouse Football Classic began as an entertainment event for the African-American civilian community and U.S. Army soldiers in the Columbus-Fort Benning area. The Classic will be held on Oct. 5th beginning at 2 p.m. at the A.J. McClung Stadium.
Bringing in over $800,000 each year, the Classic’s new location is expected to have a significant economic impact on the city. Many residents and businesses are eager for the return of this long-time cherished sporting experience.
“I’m excited for it to come back. I know this will bring a lot of attention to the city and people will see how great Columbus really is,” says a Columbus resident.
Ticket purchases and pricing information are yet to be announced.
