Suspect Jadarious Greene Taken Into Custody by U.S. Marshals Task Force

By Janell Williams

COLUMBUS, Ga. — Jadarious Greene, 18, who was wanted for murder and firearm-related charges, has been apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Task Force. Greene was taken into custody on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Recorder’s Court on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 8 a.m.

The charges stem from a fatal shooting on September 11, 2023, when Columbus Police responded to the 3400 block of 8th Avenue (Wilson Apartments) at 11:23 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered 19-year-old Javon Smith, who had suffered a gunshot wound. Despite efforts by EMS, Smith was pronounced dead at 12:01 a.m. on September 12, 2023, by Coroner Justin Harrelson.

Following an investigation by the Violent Crimes Unit, probable cause was established to issue arrest warrants for Greene on charges of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Authorities had sought Greene's whereabouts since September, offering a reward for information leading to his arrest. Anyone with additional information related to the case is encouraged to contact Cpl. A. Moyer at 706-225-4471 or submit tips anonymously through City Protect or by texting VACS to 274637 (CRIMES).

Greene will face his first court appearance as the investigation continues.
