The Columbus Police Department’s Fugitive Unit arrested Robert Jackson, 61, on March 21, 2025, in connection with a parole violation and an outstanding warrant. Jackson, also known as Cedric Harris, was taken into custody near Talbotton Road and 28th Street at approximately 1:45 p.m.
Jackson was a co-defendant in the 1979 murder of Columbus Police Officer James Bowers. After his release from prison in 2012, Jackson was required to report to his parole officer but failed to do so in 2022, leading to a parole violation. Authorities also charged him with simple assault based on an outstanding warrant issued by Recorder’s Court.
Jackson is currently being held at the Muscogee County Jail.
The Columbus Police Department emphasized its commitment to apprehending fugitives and ensuring accountability, regardless of how much time has passed. Law enforcement officials encourage anyone with information regarding criminal activity to call 911. Anonymous tips also are accepted.
