Beginning Sept. 30, 2024, Americans will be able to order free COVID-19 tests kits again, and they will be mailed to your home for free.

Each household is eligible to receive four nasal swab tests at COVIDTests.gov. Although, the tests won’t be mailed out until Sept. 30, you can go ahead and order yours now.

Because there have been continuous cases of the illness, it is important to get your COVID vaccine, which is free at local pharmacies.

According to the CDC, the following locations are offering free COVID-19 vaccines:

·         CVS Pharmacy, 1367 Double Churches Road, Columbus, Ga. 31094

·         Publix Pharmacy, 1639 Bradley Park Drive, Suite 600, Columbus, Ga. 31904

·         North Columbus Pharmacy, 6490 Veterans Parkway, Suite B, Columbus, Ga. 31909

·         Walgreens Pharmacy, 5707 Veteran’s Parkway, Columbus, Ga. 31904

·         Piedmont Pharmacy-North, 5601 Veteran’s Parkway, Columbus, Ga. 31094

·         CVS Pharmacy, 5405 Summerville Road, Phenix City, Ala. 36867

·         Walgreens Pharmacy, 5301 Summerville Road, Phenix City, AL 36867

Your doctor’s office and other local pharmacies will have the vaccines available as well, along with flu vaccines.

Currently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention already has recommended this fall’s shot for everyone age 6 months and older.

The U.S. government approved the new round of free tests so that people will know quickly if they have COVID-19 so they can decide what to do next, like getting treatment to reduce the risk of severe illness and taking steps to lower the chances of spreading the virus to others.

The COVID tests are completely free – you won’t even pay for shipping.

Shipments will begin Sept. 30, and you can sign up to receive email alerts and you will receive notification of when to expect your tests.

The tests available for order are rapid antigen at-home tests, not PCR, and will provide a result within 30 minutes. The tests can be used even if you do not have COVID-19 symptoms.

Reporting your result — whether negative or positive — helps our nation learn how to use those test results effectively. Report your test results to public health agencies at MakeMyTestCount.org.

Some people have expired tests that were received last year or earlier. Don’t throw them away even if they are expired. Many COVID-19 tests have extended expiration dates, so you may be able to use your COVID-19 tests after the expiration date that is printed on the box.

To find out if your test has an extended expiration date, check the FDA’s list of extended expiration dates.

To be confident you do not have COVID-19, the FDA recommends two negative tests for people with symptoms and three for antigen tests for people without symptoms, performed 48 hours apart.

Nobody should pay full price for COVID-19 therapeutics. COVID therapeutics are covered under most major insurance programs, but you don't need insurance to get access to COVID-19 therapeutics.
