One Dead, Another Critically Injured in Columbus Shooting

An early-morning shooting on Canaan Drive left one man dead and another critically injured, according to Columbus police.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 8300 block of Canaan Drive around 12:35 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2024. Upon arrival, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.

One of the victims, identified as 18-year-old J’Mauri Taylor, was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Ben Saxon at 1:38 a.m. The second victim was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional hospital in critical condition.

The Violent Crimes Unit is leading the investigation. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact Sgt. Michael Dahnke at 706-326-3556 or MDahnke@columbusga.org. Tips can be provided anonymously.
