A suspect is in stable condition following an officer-involved shooting early Thursday morning in Columbus, according to police.
The incident occurred around 1:18 a.m. near 42nd Street and Lakewood Drive, where officers responded to a reported domestic dispute. Upon arrival, a male suspect fired at one of the officers, prompting the officer to return fire, police said.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
Per protocol, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been notified and will lead the investigation. The Columbus Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards also will conduct an internal review of the incident.
The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigations, in accordance with department policy.
