Mother Nature and Father Time have caught up with President Joe Biden

Case in point, the Biden-Trump debate. Biden’s performance was so poor that numerous Democrats are saying he should step aside. Of course, Republicans already wanted him out of the race, but their partisan rumblings don’t really count—yet.

Growing up, some of us were constantly reminded that “the devil is a liar.” It seems to me, however, that before the devil can get up, brush his teeth and wash his face, Donald Trump has told a multitude of lies, especially all those he told during the debate.

The fact that Biden didn’t call him on a single lie has Democrats wondering aloud about Biden’s mental acuity.

“Is this an episode, or a condition,” former Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi asked on a nationally broadcast television program.

“We haven’t had a good debating president since John F. Kennedy,” said Joseph Brown, lifelong friend and fellow South Carolina native. “Barack Obama was a close second.”

Biden may never have been a great debater, but once upon a time, he could give as much as he took. Not so in the first debate. Some 41 percent of Democrats now want him replaced.

It’s not his age, it’s his competence, Republicans are saying. After all, their man Trump is also long in the tooth.

Despite all he’s done in the past, Biden is being described as a badly wounded candidate, not favored by voters. A growing number Democratic-minded voters don’t think he is currently capable of handling the Presidency.

And while Trump is far from a political Superpower, (he may even be as weak as he was four years ago) Biden does not appear to be able to take advantage of Trump’s weaknesses.

It’s obvious Biden wants a shot at another term as president, but at this point, there’s no guarantee. It’s no secret that if Biden loses, he will take down the rest of the Democrats. Proverbs 16:18 tells us, “Pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.”

Biden’s ABC News interview with George Stephanopoulos did nothing to change the minds of those calling for him to step aside. After the interview, some Democrats said he was “toast.”

Former Rep. Tim Ryan said Vice President Kamala Harris should replace President Biden on the Democratic ticket this fall. Of all the people yelping for Biden to step aside, Ryan was the first person I heard actually offer a solution.

“We have to rip the Band-Aid off. Too much at stake.” Ryan wrote in a social media post, according to The Hill. “Harris has significantly grown into her job. She will destroy Trump in a debate, highlight choice issues, engage our base, bring back young voters and give us generational change. It’s time!”

South Carolina Congressman James Clyburn, a staunch Biden supporter, told MSNBC that he would support Vice President Harris if Biden were to step aside. Clyburn is co-chair of the Biden-Harris campaign, but his position became even more important because of the speculation about whether Biden should remain on the ticket.

We know what Trump thinks of Blacks and women. He has already called Vice President Harris some of the same names he called Hillary Clinton.

It’s difficult to determine whether Biden genuinely believes he can win, or if he’s simply another old guy trying to hang on for dear life. Those of us who are older, or have watched loved ones wrestle with aging, know that the Joe Biden saga may well come to a seriously unhappy ending.
