Man Fatally Stabbed in Columbus; Suspect Arrested

COLUMBUS, Ga. — A man was fatally stabbed late Tuesday night on South Lumpkin Road and Knox Street, according to Columbus Police.

Officers responded to the scene at 11:46 p.m. and discovered an SUV stopped in the roadway with a man, identified as 33-year-old Cartez Shanklin, suffering from a stab wound. Shanklin was transported by EMS to Piedmont Columbus Regional, where he was pronounced dead at 12:20 a.m.

The Columbus Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit took over the investigation. Preliminary findings led to the identification of 39-year-old Jerry Jermaine Miller as the suspect. Miller was arrested the following day and charged with murder and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime.
