Human trafficking is a growing concern in Georgia, especially for children and vulnerable adults who are high risk for exploitation. That's why advocacy groups, such as Micah’s Promise, are working to raise awareness about the warning signs of trafficking and how communities can take action.
According to data compiled by Georgia Cares, the average age of trafficking victims in the state is 14, and many are recruited through online platforms, peer influence or coercion. Traffickers often use manipulation, violence and false promises to lure victims into dangerous situations.
They often seek out children from troubled homes or who have little to no supervision.
Traffickers exploit vulnerability and seek to isolate victims by fulfilling unmet needs. According to experts, common recruitment methods include:
