On January 6, Congress certified the 2024 presidential election. The process, which took place exactly four years after a mob of Donald Trump supporters stormed the Capitol to interfere with the 2021 Electoral College count, was dignified, smooth and basically uneventful.

Vice President Kamala Harris, who lost the election to Trump in November, presided over the vote. Lawmakers didn’t object to any state tallies and there were no major protests.

In 2021 Trump told his supporters they needed to “Stop the Steal” of the presidential election, which he had clearly lost. And they came and raised enough hell to make Lucifer himself take a few steps back.

It has been reported that approximately 140 police officers were assaulted that day at the Capitol, including about 80 from the U.S. Capitol Police and about 60 from the Metropolitan Police Department. Approximately 1,417 defendants have been charged with entering or remaining in a restricted federal building or on federal grounds.

Trump has repeatedly said he will pardon the convicted rioters, even though in January of 2024 Spectrum News reported that a majority of Americans believe the attack on the U.S. Capitol was an attack on democracy that should never be forgotten.

 Spectrum News also reported:

·         A survey by The Washington Post and the University of Maryland revealed stark partisan divides in views about the 2020 election, the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection and the events that followed it.

  • Two-thirds of Republicans polled said they still do not believe Joe Biden was legitimately elected, while 62 percent say there is solid evidence that there was widespread voter fraud in 2021
  • The poll also found that 53 percent of voters believe Trump deserves a great deal or a good amount of blame for Jan. 6, while 45 percent said the former president warrants just some of or no blame at all.
  • Two-thirds of Republicans polled said they still do not believe Biden was legitimately elected, while 62 percent say there is solid evidence that there was widespread voter fraud in 2020.
  •  Overall, 69 percent of voters — and 91percent of Democrats — said they believe Biden was legitimately elected. Sixty-three percent of all voters — and 87 percent of Democrats — said there is no concrete proof of election    fraud.

I don’t know how many of Trump’s non-Congressional supporters truly knew he lost the election, but no one else got a pass. If the insurrectionists had been successful and Trump had been given the election, it truly would have been “a steal.”

If I were to give the most recent certification a title, it would be “Stop the Con.”

Despite Trump's dangerous first day promises— including his promise to be a dictator on "Day One,” his vow to pardon the insurrectionists, and his threats against his political opponents, his supporters seem willing to walk through a forest fire wearing gasoline Fruit of the Looms.

Trump has promised retribution at home and the continuation of unilateral military action abroad, with little to no transparency,” Yahoo News reported. “Trump will take office fully aware of the challenges he faces and the leeway that inattentive Capitol Hill lawmakers — content to either bask in the ‘success’ of our foreign policy or, more often, serve as courtier-critics amid its failures — have granted the executive branch. Trump is stacking his Cabinet with the kind of true believers who will take advantage of the lack of legislative pushback and who will be more radical than those who served in his first term.”

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has said it doesn’t endorse or oppose candidates for elected office — “but we recognize that the re-election of Donald Trump as president will have immense implications for the future of our democratic norms, institutions and processes. In 2022, The Heritage Foundation, a conservative-leaning thinktank, and 140 former Trump staffers authored Project 2025 — a roadmap for how to replace the rule of law with ring-wing ideals.”

Please note that while campaigning for the presidency, Trump distanced himself from Project 2025.

“President-elect Donald Trump and his allies disavowed the conservative Project 2025 during the election, seeing the conservative transition plan and policy blueprint as a liability after Democrats used it to attack his campaign, “ NBC News reported. “Some close to Trump even suggested those tied to the effort would be shut out of a potential administration.”

However, since the election, Con-Master Trump and his minions have taken Project 2025 out of hiding in plain sight and stand ready to put it to use for their own good.

“Project 2025 is a federal policy agenda and blueprint for a radical restructuring of the executive branch authored and published by former Trump administration officials in partnership with The Heritage Foundation, a longstanding conservative thinktank that opposes abortion and reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights, immigrants’ rights, and racial equity,” the ACLU reported. “Project 2025’s largest publication, ‘Mandate For Leadership,’ is a 900-page manual for reorganizing the entire federal government agency by agency to serve a conservative agenda.”

Women’s healthcare, gay and trans people’s right to live freely, and people’s right to vote are all at stake.

If Trump and his honchos implement Project 2025, many of the blacks and browns who voted Republican will come to the harsh realization that Trump lied and tricked them into believing his campaign con.

According to the Associated Press about three in 10 Black men younger than 45 voted for Trump, roughly double the share he got in 2020. Trump also won 47 percent of Latino men’s votes.

I hope you voters of color realize that Trump is not interested in any campaign promises you think he made to you while conning you out of your vote. If he has his way, he will remain in office forever — or for at least for as long as he likes.
