The Tri-City basketball scene has once again delivered an unforgettable chapter, showcasing the relentless drive, passion and skill of its
What’s holding you back?
How many times have you hesitated to follow your dreams because you didn’t believe in yourself? Worse yet, how often have you been discouraged by someone else’s limited beliefs?
Take it from me—I know how the enemy works. Satan will plant fear in your mind about things that aren’t even likely to happen. He will send people—sometimes even family members or a spouse—to tell you, “It’s not the right time,” or “We can’t afford it financially.”
But remember this: God will never give you a vision without provision.
There will always be “haters,” so you might as well let the haters hate. The greatest vindication for me wasn’t proving them wrong with words, but by standing strong despite the odds.
They said I didn’t have the educational background to run a newspaper.
They said I wouldn’t last beyond two issues.
They said I didn’t know Spanish.
They said I didn’t have the money to start.
They said it wasn’t the right time.
And yet, after 20 years—I’m still standing.
If my story doesn’t motivate you, then consider this:
As a man was walking past a group of elephants, he noticed that these massive creatures were held back by nothing more than a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains. No cages. They could break free at any moment—but they didn’t.
Curious, he asked the trainer why they didn’t attempt to escape.
"When they are young, we use this same-sized rope to tie them. At that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow, they’re conditioned to believe they can’t break free. So, they never even try."
The man was stunned. These powerful creatures remained bound—not by the rope, but by a belief that no longer served them.
How many of us are like those elephants? Held back by doubts, by the words of others, by fear that was planted long ago?
Don’t let your haters, your so-called friends, your family—or even your spouse—be the rope that keeps you bound to false limitations.
Follow your dreams. Move forward in faith. And don’t let the fear of failure stop you from trying. Because here’s the truth: Your attempt may fail, but never, ever fail to make an attempt.
