Columbus Police have arrested a driver in connection with a fatal traffic accident that claimed the life of a 57-year-old woman.
The incident occurred at 4:33 p.m. on Nov. 11, 2024, near the intersection of Macon Road and Reese Road. Officers responded to the scene following reports of a collision between a vehicle and a moped.
The moped operator, identified as Edith Opry, was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
After an investigation led by the department’s Motor Squad, John Gary, the driver of the other vehicle, was taken into custody on Dec. 2.
He now faces multiple charges, including second-degree homicide by vehicle, following too closely, and speeding.
Gary is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing in Recorder’s Court on Tuesday, Dec.3, 2024, at 8 a.m.
Authorities have not released additional details about the incident as the investigation continues.
