Democratic challenger, Shevon Thomas won the Solicitor General race in Muscogee County in Georgia against Republican incumbent Suzanne Goddard.
Goddard was Solicitor General for the last 10 years in the county.
Thomas, a private attorney, established his own law firm in 2006 and represented criminal defense and personal injury services to the Columbus, Georgia area, according to his law firm’s website, Shevon Sutcliffe Thomas & Associates.
He also previously served as Assistant Solicitor General in Coweta County in Georgia.
"It's time for new leadership," Thomas said. "I'm not one to make promises I know I can't fulfill. I do have a plan, and I am ready to bring some new ideas to the table."
Goddard has worked for 27 years in the Solicitor General's office for Muscogee, according to a video on her Instagram account. She was first appointed as Muscogee County Solicitor General by Georgia Governor Nathan Deals in 2014, according to the video. She first started off as an Assistant Solicitor General and was appointed afterward to Chief Assistant Solicitor before the governor’s appointment.
Courier Eco Latino has reached out to Goddard for comment.
