On Dec. 31, 2024, David Britt was officially sworn in as the new Muscogee County Tax Commissioner during a ceremony held at the Muscogee County Courthouse.
Britt, who has spent more than two decades working in the Tax Commissioner’s Office, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead and outlined his vision for the future of the office.
“I am grateful to serve as Muscogee County’s next Tax Commissioner,” Britt said in his remarks. “I thank God for His guidance and wisdom. I am truly blessed to have this opportunity.”
Britt’s appointment follows the tenure of outgoing Tax Commissioner Lula L. Huff, whom he praised for her dedication and leadership.
“Our current Tax Commissioner, Lula L. Huff, has laid an outstanding foundation. She has served, sacrificed and worked tirelessly for the citizens of Muscogee County. The office is better because of her leadership,” he noted.
Britt brings to the role a wealth of experience and a diverse educational background, including advanced degrees in communications, business administration and public administration, along with expertise in real estate and mass communication.
Still, he emphasized that his approach to the position will be grounded in a commitment to public service.
“In my 23 years with the office, I developed a passion for serving the public,” Britt said. “It is my passion for service, ability to connect with people and eagerness to listen to their concerns that best equip me for this role. I believe in leading by example, meeting people where they are and working together to find solutions.”
Looking ahead, Britt pledged to build on Huff’s legacy by continuing efforts to enhance efficiency and improve service.
“I will continue the work to make processes more efficient for both our employees and citizens. I will assess our current challenges, focus on service and keep our citizens informed,” he said. “I am committed, dedicated and ready to lead the Tax Commissioner’s Office into the future.”
Britt’s swearing-in marks a new chapter for the office, with many in the community eager to see how he will address key issues facing Muscogee County.
