The Courier Eco Latino newspaper is proud to be the recent recipient of the Pivot Funds inaugural Fellowship program.
This inaugural program is designed to advance equity in electoral journalism by supporting mid-career journalists of color and LGBTQ+ individuals. The fellowship provides minority news outlets with a journalist who will produce thoughtful, nuanced election coverage with a focus on Georgia’s 2024 election. The program seeks to amplify underrepresented voices in journalism and ensure diverse perspectives on voting rights and elections.
Joining our team is Sahar Akbarzai. Sahar is a journalist focusing on how politics and policy affect vulnerable and minority communities. For the past five years, she has worked at CNN covering both US and international news, with a focus on social justice issues. She hopes her reporting empowers and engages communities to learn more about the world events around them. Sahar graduated with a degree in Political Science and International Relations from Rutger University in New Jersey.
