Community members and local officials came together last Saturday, Nov. 18, to celebrate with Kamesha Harbison at the grand opening of the Harbison Covenant Institute. Located at 2000 10th Ave, Suite 150, Columbus, GA 31091, Harbison Covenant focuses on offering affordable women’s health to the community. Those attending the ribbon cutting included Mayor Skip Henderson and Kamesha’s father-in-law, Senator Ed Harbison.
Founder and Board-Certified OBGYN Kamesha Harbison has wanted to go into the healthcare field since she was in kindergarten. After completing her residency here, she decided to stay in Columbus, where she worked at Valley Healthcare. While Kamesha enjoyed her time at Valley, she wanted more flexibility about who she wanted to serve and how she wanted to serve them, “Women’s healthcare is just one of those things that everyone talks about; it’s either you can afford it or you can’t. We wanted to make sure that we were in close proximity for the entire metro Columbus area to have the ability to be taken care of.” This idea later brought about an opportunity to build and bring in other nurse practitioners to ensure women’s health was a main priority.
As the practice grows, they hope to expand into Columbus’s surrounding counties and, eventually, other states. They also want to continue bringing in additional nurse practitioners and jobs and including men in the birthing process by offering workshops on how dads can financially and mentally prepare for new babies, “This is not just an institute; it is a ministry,” said Harbison.
