COLUMBUS, Ga. — Columbus State University will kick off the holiday season with a basketball-themed celebration and campus lighting event on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at its Main Campus.
Festivities begin at 6 p.m. on the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. basketball court, where the CSU men’s basketball team will face off against Francis Marion University in their season home opener. Admission is free for students, employees, and community members.
Following the game, the university will hold a campus lighting ceremony on the Student Recreation Center lawn adjacent to the Lumpkin Center. Complimentary holiday cookies and hot chocolate will be served, with the tree-lighting event scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Attendees are encouraged to bring nonperishable food donations to support the CSU Police Department’s Cougars for Causes Food Drive. The donations will benefit the CSU Food Pantry, which provides short-term food and hygiene assistance to students in need. Items in high demand include canned soups, vegetables, macaroni and cheese, and individually packaged snacks.
During the basketball game, fans can enjoy performances by the CSU cheerleaders, halftime games and prizes, and entertainment from the Northside High School Drumline and Clubview Elementary School Chorus. Cody the Cougar, the university’s mascot, will also be available for photos, and free kids’ activities will add to the family-friendly fun.
Food and beverage concessions will be available at the game. Additionally, a holiday-themed meal will be served at the Cougar Café in the Davidson Student Center starting at 5 p.m. The meal costs $8.50 for visitors not using a campus meal plan.
