The Columbus Police Department will host its first-ever Cadet Appreciation Day at noon on Wednesday, Mar. 12, 2025. The event, held in the Basement Training Room of the Public Safety Building, will honor the hard work and dedication of cadets enrolled in the department’s longstanding training program.
Established in 1971, CPD’s Cadet Program provides young adults aged 18 to 20 with hands-on experience in law enforcement, serving as a pathway for many to become full-time officers.
Among its notable graduates is Captain William Turner, who began his career as a cadet more than 50 years ago. Turner will serve as a featured speaker at the event, sharing insights on how the program shaped his journey in law enforcement.
The event is sponsored by Back Columbus Blue and Goodwill Industries of the Southern Rivers, organizations that support career development and public safety initiatives.
In addition to honoring current cadets, CPD has invited high school seniors studying criminal justice to attend, offering them a firsthand look at career opportunities within law enforcement.
City leaders and officials are expected to join the celebration, recognizing the impact of the Cadet Program in developing future officers and strengthening community policing efforts.
