Columbus Police Department to Host First-Ever Cadet Appreciation Day

The Columbus Police Department hosted its inaugural Cadet Appreciation Day on March 12, 2025, to honor the dedication and hard work of its cadets. The ceremony was held in the Basement Training Room of the Public Safety Building.

The department’s Cadet Program, which began in 1971, offers young adults ages 18 to 20 hands-on experience in law enforcement. Many cadets have gone on to become full-time officers, including Captain William Turner, who began as a cadet over 50 years ago and will speak at the event.

The event was sponsored by Back Columbus Blue and Goodwill Industries of the Southern Rivers. High school seniors studying criminal justice will also be invited to attend and explore career opportunities in law enforcement.
