Columbus Man Arrested in January Shooting, Faces Multiple Charges

A Columbus man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred on Jan. 9, 2025, in the 3900 block of Trask Drive.

Marc Whatley, 38, was taken into custody on Mar. 6, 2025, and is facing several charges, including aggravated assault, home invasion, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and theft by receiving stolen property.

The shooting occurred around 3:45 p.m. when officers responded to a 911 call reporting the incident. Upon arrival, they found a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital and is currently in stable condition.

Whatley is accused of forcibly entering the residence, assaulting the victim and fleeing the scene.

At the time of the incident, he was driving a green 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis with large rims and Georgia license plate CKC 8878.

Authorities had previously warned that Whatley should be considered armed and dangerous.

The investigation is ongoing.
