Northside High School teacher Christie Akers has been named one of Georgia’s Top 10 Finalists for Teacher of the Year, the Muscogee County School District announced.
State Superintendent Richard Woods delivered the news in person, recognizing Akers for her dedication, passion and excellence in education.
MCSD Superintendent David Lewis joined the celebration, surprising Akers at Northside High School alongside Principal Nathan Laney and the school community. Students and faculty gathered to commend her on this prestigious recognition.
"Ms. Akers exemplifies the highest standards of teaching and leadership in education," Lewis said. "Her commitment to student success and innovative approach to learning make her an outstanding representative of Muscogee County and the State of Georgia."
As a Top 10 Finalist, Akers will continue in the Georgia Teacher of the Year selection process, with the winner set to be announced later this year. The Muscogee County School District celebrates her achievement and extends its support as she advances in the competition.
