Arrest Made in Deadly Hit-and-Run Incident
The Columbus Police Department’s Motor Squad has made an arrest in the hit-and-run investigation that claimed the life of
PORT ORANGE, Fla.— Like I wrote last time, some of the white voters here have their U.S. flags flapping because Donald Trump won the Presidential election.
Meanwhile, a growing number of black males here are flapping their jaws trying to explain to other blacks why they voted for Trump.
According to the Associated Press about 3 in 10 Black men under age 45 voted for Trump, roughly double the share he got in 2020.
Before I came to Florida a week ago, I thought I had heard just about every nonsensical reason imaginable for voters not to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris: “Prices are going to go up on everything — especially food.” “She’s a communist.”
Now I feel like shouting from some mountain top (it’s so chilly here, it might be snow-capped) that the tariffs Trump has proposed will put food and just about everything out of reach.
How a person votes is his or her own business. There’s really no need to explain, because what is done is done. And all of us will have to live with it, through it, or under it.
But if a person chooses to open his or her mouth and explain why Trump was the better candidate, then do just that. So far, however, a number of those attempting to explain themselves sound like a runaway slave recaptured after the passage of the Fugitive Slave Act.
I believe their thoughts are rambling and disjointed because they have been influenced by people they look up to. But they may not fully understand all that is involved — such as the results of imposing tariffs.
One such “influencer” is Charlamagne Tha God: “I’m not looking for my politicians to be pure…I’m looking for my politicians to be effective,” The Guardian reported back in February.
And Charlamagne was preaching this message to the millions who listen to his popular radio show “The Breakfast Club.”
“Black men are frustrated with the Democrats and President Joe Biden. We believe the Democrats are wasting time and energy telling us what we already know about Donald Trump, when instead, they should focus on delivering their promises to our community,” he said.
This may be true for Charlamagne, but in politics one size doesn’t necessarily fit all.
There are any number of blacks who say President Barack Obama did nothing for them. It seems that if a Pink Panther is elected president, all the other Pink Panthers think the president should tend to their needs to the exclusion of everything and everyone else.
What the Congress allows or ignores is not considered. Some segments of the population act as if the President, like a fairytale king, has all of his wishes turned into commands.
Oh, yes, speaking of wishes and commands, the President’s wishes turn into commands when it comes to Presidential pardons.
And some of the same jaws are flapping about President Biden granting his son Hunter Biden a pardon: “Biden lied, he said he’d let the courts handle it,” seems to be the most common of comments.
The targets that mysteriously appear on the backs of Trump’s enemies are legendary. So what right-thinking parent is going to leave his or her child at Trump’s mercy?
Not me.
