Black Business of the Week: Hazel’s Flowers & Gifts

Opened in Columbus 35 years ago, Hazel’s Flowers & Gifts has prided itself on providing floral arrangements to the local community. After obtaining her business degree and later getting married, founder Hazel Thomas returned to Columbus with her new family. She spoke with a friend’s florist about the business and was inspired to open her floral shop.

Since then, Hazel has connected with numerous organizations in Columbus to share her passion for business with young entrepreneurs. Thomas firmly believes that, especially for minorities, communities need to support their local small businesses. She hopes to inspire local at-home florists to expand into the brick-and-mortar business style.
