Arrest made in Dollar General shooting

On February 14, 2022, around 3:30 p.m., Columbus Police officers responded to the 900 block of Amber Drive (Dollar General) in reference to a shooting. Responding officers located a Black male (later identified as Gary Brown, 27) suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was transported by EMS to Piedmont Columbus Regional where he succumbed to his injuries two days later.

Detectives with the Homicide Unit (now Violent Crimes Unit) were called to the scene to take lead on the investigation. On January 4, 2024, probable cause was established to issue arrest warrants for Kentarius Cooper, 19. On, January 12, 2024, Cooper was arrested and charged with Murder and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Copper appeared in Recorder’s Court on Wednesday, January 17, 2023. No release date has been given at this time.
