Arrest Made in Connection With Broadway Shooting Incident

Columbus, GA— A 19-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this month in Columbus.

Markale Mickles was apprehended on July 26, 2024, by the Columbus Police Department’s Fugitive Unit, with assistance from the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshals Task Force, and additional CPD detectives. Mickles faces charges of murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

He is scheduled to appear in Recorder’s Court for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at 9 a.m. according to police.

The charges stem from a shooting incident that took place on July 7, 2024, in a parking garage on the 1000 block of Broadway. Officers responded to the scene at approximately 12:16 a.m. and found Quentin Scott, Jr., who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. Two other individuals were also injured in the incident and were transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital, where they remain in stable condition.

The Columbus Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit is leading the investigation. The department expressed its gratitude to the Muscogee County Sheriff's Office, CPD Investigative Services, Drone Unit and the U.S. Marshals Task Force for their assistance in the operation.
