I don't know if you have been keeping up, but from midnight Friday, Feb. 28, to 11:59 p.m. the Rev. Al Sharpton has asked all African Americans and other minority groups not to purchase anything during the 24-hour Diversity Equity and Inclusion Boycott.
This means do not make any purchases anywhere for any reason; and if you must shop, do business with local minority owned and operated retailers.
Do not buy anything from Amazon, Walmart, McDonalds, or any major retailers, including gas. If you know you will need something, you need to purchase them beforehand or wait until Saturday. Do not shop on FRIDAY!
Businesses that have pulled back or stopped their DEI initiatives include: Amazon, Google, Walmart, Target, Meta, Microsoft, Zoom, Winston & Strawn, Accenture, Harley-Davidson, John Deere, Tractor Supply Company, Polaris, Lowe's, Ford, Molson Coors, Nissan, Disney, Citigroup, McDonald's, Jack Daniel's, Toyota, Boeing, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, Aldi, BJ's Wholesale Club, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, Morgan Stanley, BlackRock, CNN, Chipotle Mexican Grill, UPS and Starbucks.
According to Newsweek, the following companies have released statements defining their continued support for DEI programs and policies: Delta Air Lines, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Apple, e.l.f. Beauty, Meijer, Kroger, TJ Maxx, Dollar Tree, Ben & Jerry's, Proctor & Gamble, NFL, Moe's Southwest Grill (GoTo Foods), Ulta and Sephora.
If we stick together we can show these major retailers that our money matters and we want people who look like us to have a chance to work for them. I already had been looking for ways to tighten my purse strings. So, I am looking forward to not spending one red cent on Friday.
