Davis Broadcasting celebrated its 38th annual Children’s Christmas Party and Toy Giveaway at Peachtree Mall on Dec. 12. The event welcomed over 400 families,
with every child receiving toys purchased with the donations made by the Tri-City Community doing DBI’s annual radiothon.
In addition to toys, bikes and games for children, parents had the opportunity to win a $50 gas gift card by participating in games such as unwrapping gifts and singing Christmas songs.
“The families walking away with smiles and memories make all the hard work worthwhile,” said Gavin Henry, the production manager.
The event was made possible through the dedication of volunteers from organizations like Jack and Jill, Omega Psi Phi, Alpha mentorship programs, and various local churches.
Chancellor Johnson of Spencer High School’s Standard Male Mentoring Group said the most fulfilling part of volunteering each year is giving back.
“The joy of giving back is not for yourself. It’s to inspire the next hands that can help,” Johnson said.
Entertainment included performances of Christmas music by local artists, a holiday dance routine by Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, and a special appearance by Santa Claus.
The highlight was a visit from American Idol winner Ruben Studdard, who shared an inspiring message with the crowd.
